Carcinogenic Poetry is a brand new poetry blog publishing poems of the absurd, non traditional and new thought writing as well. The truth is to lies like cancer, and with this fact in mind, Carcinogenic strives to bring voices that radiate among the independent and underground lit realm. The work at Carcinogenic Poetry speaks. Already a number of poets and writers have lined up to share their work in a presentation of indiscriminate creativity and truth.
Some poets who’ve been featured at Carcinogenic Poety:
Peycho Kanev
A.J. Kaufmann
Carly Bryson
Holly Jaffe
Kevin Reid
Richard Fein
Michael McAloran
Howie Good
Si Philbrook
Michael Lee Johnson
There is more great work to come from Carcinogenic Poetry. If you’d like to share your work, please send an e-mail to michael (dot) aaron (dot) casares (at) gmail (dot) com. You may send up to five poems in the body of your email. Please include a two to three line bio. You may submit previously published work, but you must inform us of where this work has previously appeared. Simultaneous submissions are fine as well, but please let us know immediately when any work in submission has been accepted for publication by another entity. Authors and poets keep all rights to their work, but Virgogray Press & Carcinogenic Poetry reserve the right to archive your work and use in future print editions and/or publications. At Carcinogenic Poetry, we are not concerned with your publishing history or acquired degrees, we just want the stuff you believe in.
Other Publishing Opportunities
Though Virgogray Press is closed to chapbook manuscript submissions for the time being, we are still accepting submissions of work for the above mentioned, Carcinogenic Poetry, and our Virgogray Press Chapbook Anthologies. The VGP Chapbook Anthology Series has a new publication scheduled for release in the first months of 2010 called “America Remember” and is an anthology of poetry about the philosophies and ideas that founded the United States of America. If you have poetry or prose or polemics in this vein, you are welcome to submit your work to Virgogray Press. Those accepted for publication will receive two contributors copies. Unfortunately we cannot offer monetary payment for the publication of author’s work. Work considered for publication in any of the Virgogray Chapbook Anthologies must be previously unpublished and simultaneous submissions are discouraged! The new deadline for “America Remembered” is January 22, 2010 so please send in your work soon!
Virgogray Press Chapbook Anthologies are released quarterly and collect poems thematically calculated to fit the vision of the issue. The next anthologies will have the theme of “mothers” so prepare your poetry and prose and get it over to us.
If you’ve read or purchased any of our previous anthologies, you know it is a collection of voices that has no bias to style or development, but ring through with a clarity that originates with the gifts of the creative. Submit to the Virgogray Press Chapbook Anthologies… “America Remembered” is waiting to hear you.

I would like to thank everyone who participated and worked with VGP this past year. Thanks to all those who sent in their work and who continued to have faith in what this press is doing and what we stand for. Virgogray Press began as a mission to give voice not only to the voiceless artist, but those without “scholastic honor” or “marketable favor” and as a result incredible things have happened and we’ve experienced poetry rich with the soul.
This year has seen many steps forward in this manner from the release of solo artist’ work via the chapbook to the work of several voices as one in our chapbook anthologies; Virgogray Press is proud to share these independent voices with the world of underground literature and independent publishing, and thankful for the opportunity.
Next year we look forward to working with many more poets and artists and publishing many new works from authors establishing themselves among the net fields and beyond. Virgogray Press is also looking forward to expansion beyond the net-world into the physical with publications being available for purchase in locations around Austin, TX and, with luck, globally, too. We look forward to an active role in the writing community.
2010 will also see updates from Over Your Radar Culture Review as well as a continued stream of poetry and literature from Carcinogenic Poetry. Get involved with Virgogray Press. There are several ways to share your art and your voice with the world and Virgogray is simply one way to do that.
In 2010 look for these titles from Virgogray Press:
Dreaming Quick by Brendan Kirk
Mind Static Vol. 1 by Anne McMillen
Mind Static Vol. 2 by Anne McMillen
Storms at the Edge by Gail Gray
Bliss Hangover by Donna Snyder
Mostly Spinach by Joseph Goosey
and many more!
As a way to kick off the new year, VGP will be offering readers a free chapbook when they purchase two chapbooks at regular price! Visit our online store at virgograypress.blogspot.com and type in the title of the chap you’d like for free when you purchase two chaps. This offer is valid January 1, 2010 through January 22, 2010 so stop on by and browse our expanded library and pick up a copy soon!

The Pushcart nominations are a wonderful way to congratulate and thank the writers contributing to Virgogray and also a wonderful way to support the writing community because I believe the small press, the independent, like other independent types of business, is worth consideration, and I thought the pieces I selected could contribute to that.
The task of choosing really wasn’t easy. I was looking for poems that had more than a few memorable lines, but really stuck out as a whole and resonated in a clarity that could generally be digested. That was the initial method. But then, with so much writing and poetry, I chose to take the most unique in either content or style, or both. They had to say something, as well. The clarity and the message were important. They had to speak, fluidly, and I believe that is what these pieces have done.
Virgogray Press is proud to announce its nominees for the 2009 Pushcart Prize. The Pushcart Prize, for those who may not know, is a prestigious award given to authors, poets & writers in the field of small press publishing. Nominees are selected and submitted at the end of the year and those chosen for the award appear in the subsequent year’s anthology. Welcoming both traditional and experimental writing, a selection has been made from our catalogue of some of the best work that has come across the desk at Virgogray Press. Please give a hand in congratulating the writers selected for nomination this year and wish them luck!
2009 Virgogray Press Pushcart Prize Nominations:
1. “Things I Cannot Write About, Even if They are True” by Suzi Kaplan Olmsted from her book, Institutional Wallet
2. “Hell with a Metal Door” by Donna Snyder from VGP Anthology, Valium
3. “Colostomy” by Elzy Cogswell from VGP Anthology, So it Goes
4. “Planned Suicide Note” by Anne McMillen from VGP Anthology, Valium
Again, congratulations to these writers and have a happy Thanksgiving.

Virgogray Press will stop taking chapbook manuscript submissions on December 1, 2009. Due to the high volume of submissions we’ve received, we have already filled our publishing schedule for the majority of 2010. We’re proud to announce brand new publications from great poets and writers including: Anne McMillen, Gail Gray, Branden Kirk, and Joseph Goosey along with several other new and rising writers. If you are still interested in submitting your poetry, or other materials to Virgogray, there are still opportunities. In December, Virgogray will launch its own internet poetry forum, Carcinogenic Poetry which will publish on a rolling basis and is seeking all types of verse. Also, writers are welcome to send in their writing to our themed publications via the Virgogray Press Chapbook Anthology Series. The next chapbook in the series is entitled America Remembered and will be published in early 2010. Virgogray is seeking poetry and prose about the values and ideals that formulated the American way of life; the submission deadline is January 1, 2010. Thank you for your interest in Virgogray Press.

The latest release from Virgogray Press is the newest in the VGP Chapbook Anthology Series. The anthology, entitled “So it Goes,” collects the various feelings and thoughts of poets and writers on the topic of death. As some may have referenced the title of the book to a phrase concerning death made famous by the author of “Slaughter House 5,” Kurt Vonnegut, “So it Goes” sought to capture, not just accounts of death and the various mixture of emotions that come from personal accounts of this experience, but to also exhibit ideas and thoughts from a wide array of voices that celebrate humanity through reflections and perceptions of life unique to the poet. In the pages of “So it Goes” poetry fans will be delighted to read new and unpublished work from writers like Elzy Cogswell, Puma Pearl, Gillian Prew, Joseph Goosey and Chris D’Errico to name a few, and readers in general will enjoy a rollercoaster of an anthology that shines a full spectrum of emotions on a topic often mired in negative stigmas. Stop into the Virgogray Press online store and pick up your copy today!
